In the Name of God Amen / I James Mitchel of Granville County in the province / of North Carolina being of perfect mind & sound Memory / thanks be given to Almighty god for the same & Calling to / Mind the uncertain stat of Mankind & that it is appointed / for all men Once to die make Constitute appoint and / Ordain this my last will & testament in Writing that is / to say first of all I Recommend my soul into the hands / of God that gave it, Nothing Doubting but at the General / [Resurrection that] I shall Receive the same again by the / Mighty power of God and as touching Such world[ly] / Estate wherewith it hath pleased the Almighty to Bless / me with in this life I give & dispose of the Same in Manner & form following / Imprimis. I give & bequeath to my son Josiah Mitchell five / Shillings proclamation Money. / Item. I give & bequeath to my Daughter Jemima Davenport / five Shillings Proclamation Money. / Item I give & bequeath to my son James Mitchell / five Shillings Proclamation Money / Item I give & bequeath to my son David Mitchell / five Shillings Proclamation Money / Item I give & bequeath to my son John Mitchell five / Shillings Proclamation Money / Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Amy Satterwhite / five Shillings Proclamation Money / Item I give & bequeath to my Daughter Mary Bullock / five Shillings Proclamation Money /

Item: I give & bequeath to my son Abraham Mitchell / five Shillings proclamation Money / Item I give & bequeath to my Grandson Randol Mitchel / One tract of land Containing Two hundred & four Acres / it being the land his father Now lives On According as / the lines is Run, & One Negro fellow Named Jack being / the Negro Shall Come by his Mother to him & his heirs / forever, & my Desire is that my Son Josiah & his wife / may live On the Said land During their lives – / Item I give & bequeath to My Granddaughter Elisabeth / Mitchell One Negro Woman Named Tabb to her & her / heirs forever / Item My Reasons for Not giving any larger Legasiys to / My Children at present is, that I have heretofore given / to Each of My Children before the Writing & Sighning / this Will Lands Negroes & Other Valuable Cummodities / Suitable towards Housekeeping, / And lastly I leave the plantation I now live On & / all my Land that I have any Right Or title to, & all / My Negroes with all the Rest of My Estate both Real / and Personal to be so[ld] by my Ex[ecuto]rs & the Money – / arising from such sa[le to be] Equally Divided between / My Seven Children to Wit, Josiah Mitchell, David / Mitchell, John Mitchell, Abraham Mitchell, Jemima / Davenport, Amy Satterwhite & Mary Bullock / My Reason for not leaving my son James Mitchell / an Equal part with Rest is that he hath already / had a greater part thin Either of my Children has had / Or will have, I have left a Just account of what he / hath had, /

My Desire is that my Son David Mitchell shall / be paid Out of my Estate before a Division of the / Same, the amount of a bond Given David Mitchell / by My son James, payable the first day of March / [The will is torn here and part of the line is missing.] Shillings Proc / Money [The will is torn here and part of the line is missing.] / & Hannaka[?] his Wife & My Negro Woman Mo[-----] / after My Discease may Not be sold but be at their / Liberty to live with which of my Children they like / But to stay with / I do hereby Constitute & appoint my son Josiah / Mitchell, my son David Mitchell, my son John / Mitchell & Michl Satterwhite, My Ex[ecuto]rs to this my last / will & Testament hereby Revoking & Disannuling / all & Every Other Will Or Wills heretofore by me Made Or / done Ratifying & Confirming this & no Other to be my last / will & Testament In Witness whereof I have hereunto / Set my hand & affixed My Seal this first day of March / Anno Dom 1775
